Police on Thursday recovered bodies of a couple and their two minor children from a house at Pallabi in the capital city of Dhaka, prompting an investigation into what officers described as a possible family tragedy.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Masum, his wife Fatema Akter Sumi, and their two sons, Minhaz, aged three-and-a-half, and Asad, aged one-and-a-half.

AKM Alamgir Jahan, officer-in-charge of Pallabi Police Station, said, police were examining the sequence of events leading to the deaths.

“Preliminary findings suggest the incident may have occurred within the family, but we are investigating whether it was a case involving only the parents or whether there was any third-party involvement,” he said.

He added that the bodies will be for post-mortem to determine the exact cause and time of death.

Neighbours said the family lived quietly and locals became alarmed after receiving no response from the house for several hours.

Md Alauddin, a neighbour, said residents suspected that something was wrong and informed the police after repeated attempts to contact the family failed.

Police said they were questioning people close to the family and reviewing circumstances to establish what led to the deaths.
