Padma Bridge opens for vehicular movement June 26

On the day of Padma Bridge inauguration vehicles will not be allowed to cross the bridge. However, a separate notice will be issued following the inauguration when the bridge will be opened for traffic. 

Mass people may be allowed to cross the Padma Bridge on foot on the same day.

Minister for Road Transport and Bridges and General Secretary of Awami League Obaidul Quader told attendees at a views exchange meeting at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center on the occasion of the inauguration of the Padma Bridge organized by the bridges department in the capital on Wednesday.  

The meeting was held with the MPs of the two coastal districts, local public representatives and Awami League leaders.

Obaidul Quader said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Padma Bridge on June 25. But on the same day, the Padma Bridge will not be opened to the public.  No vehicle will cross the Padma Bridge. Traffic movement is likely to start from the morning of the next day.” 

“Vehicles can cross the bridge by giving toll from both side of the bridge. We will announce the certain schedule later. But for a limited time, we will allow mass people to cross the bridge on foot,” added Obaidul Quader. 

The minister has instructed the leaders and workers to be vigilant on the day of inauguration of Padma Bridge saying, “Anything can happen on the day the bridge is inaugurated. There are conspiracies going.” 

He also questioned whether the incident of container fire at Sitakunda in Chittagong was a sabotage. 

Addressing the party leaders and workers, the minister said, “Many incidents are happening. I don't know whether the incident at this depot in Chittagong is a sabotage or not. There is a conspiracy to carry out such sabotage ahead of the inauguration of the Padma Bridge. Even on the day of the inauguration, many will try desperately for something to happen. We have to be careful.” 

The meeting was attended by Member of Parliament and Central Leader of Awami League Abu Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Whip of National Parliament Noor Alam Chowdhury Liton, presidium members of the party Kazi Zafar Ullah, Shahjahan Khan, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Abdur Rahman, Joint General Secretary of the party AFM Bahauddin Nasim, BM Mozammel Haque, Organizing Secretary SM Kamal Hossain, Advocate Afzal Hossain, publicity secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Iqbal Hossain Apu MP, Enamul Haque Shamim and Nahim Razzak. 

The meeting was chaired by Awami League Organizing Secretary Mirza Azam.
