Unidentified thieves stole around 450 grams (45 Bhori) of gold jewelries from the house of a former Additional Inspector General of Police (Addl IGP) in the capital Dhaka on Monday night.
The incident was happened at the residence of Khandaker Mozammel Haque, retired additional IGP.
According to the police sources, the thieves cut a window grill of his house in the New Eskaton area and stole the ornaments.
However, the residents of the house on Tuesday morning discovered that the ornaments had been stolen.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Asaduzzaman of Ramna Police Station confirmed the incident.
He said that in the morning when the domestic help of the house went to clean the house. Later she saw the grill was cut. She informed the issue to everyone in the house.
He added that the residents were not always home.
No arrests have been made so far in the case. Police are monitoring CCTV footage.
Mitali Hossain, wife of the former IGP, told that her husband and she live on the ground floor of the duplex house while their children live upstairs. They weren't home last night. About 45 bhori gold ornaments were stolen from her daughter’s room, she claimed.
She further said, “Since my daughter was not at home, the door of her room was locked. However this morning we saw that the grill was cut from the window and the lock on her cupboard was broken.”
Ramna Police said they are filing a case in this regard.
