Now the authorities of the University of Dhaka has also denied to take part in the uniform admission test system arranged by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The decision came from the Academic Council Meeting held on Monday at the Senate Building of the university. The meeting was presided over by DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. M Akhtaruzzman.

After the meeting, the DU VC said that the university will enroll the students as per its own rules and as usually like in the past.
“The members of the academic council did not agree to adopt the uniformed admission system centrally monitored by the UGC,” he added.

Professor Dr. Maksud Kamal, president of Dhaka University Teachers Association, said, “The Dhaka University is run by the `1973 Ordinance’ and it gives the university the full authority to enroll new students independently.”

Earlier, on February 13, the UGC decided to arrange a uniform admission test system for all public universities from the next academic year, 2020-2021, to reduce sufferings of students and their guardians.

As per the decision, the test will be simultaneously held at all universities on a same day instead of the existing system under which students need to go to different universities across the country for the entrance examinations.

But, four universities--Dhaka University, Chittagong University, Jahangirnagar University and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) did not confirm their participation in the process. The BUET and the Chittagong University already have also decided not to join the uniform admission system.
