The capital and five other districts experienced the first rain as well as nor’wester of the season on Saturday.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) predicts the occurrence of light to moderate rain or thunderstorms in different parts of the country for a few days.

Different areas of the capital witnessed hour-long load-shedding during the nor’wester.

Duty officers of Power Development Board said they are working to bring the situation under control. Before the rain begun, a dust storm blew over the city. At about 3.30 pm, it started raining intermittently. From 4:30 pm, the sky turned black and the wind began to blow with great speed.

Many people are considering the rain at the beginning of the year as auspicious. A lot of people were seen returning to their destinations after getting soaked in the rain.

Earlier, on Friday morning, the Meteorological Department said that rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur in some parts of the country. The forecast also said, the weather will remain dry likely with temporary partly cloudy sky. The temperature of day and night across the country may remain nearly unchanged. The weather may change slightly today (Sunday). The temperature will rise in the next five days, the meteorologists informed.

Meteorologists informed that the first Kalbaishakhi of the year hit Savar first and later reached Dhaka. The Kalboishakhi (nor’wester) occurred in Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Gazipur, Madaripur and Barishal. The wind blew at a speed of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour in Dhaka.

River ports in some regions were asked to hoist ‘warning signal No 1’ due to strong wind. However, no warning signal was issued for maritime ports.
