There is no pressure on the election commission from any quarter or political parties, said Kazi Habibul Awal, the newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner.

The CEC made the remarks after paying homage to the martyred at the National Memorial in Savar on Tuesday morning.

He also said that the election commission always works freely and likewise will do so in the future.

During the visit, four other election commissioners - Rashida Sultana, Brig Gen (retd) Ahsan Habib Khan, Md Alamgir, and Anisur Rahman were also present.

The CEC placed wreaths at the memorial at around 10 on Tuesday morning and then observed one-minute silence there.

The newly appointed CEC said they are strongly committed to holding the next national parliamentary election fully free and fair and that they are preparing to do it regardless of any influence.

Besides, he hoped that all political parties will participate in the polls under this election commission, adding that there is no pressure on them from any of the quarter or political parties.

He also said, “Regarding ensuring participation of all the political parties we shall discuss the matter among ourselves (election commissioners) and find best ways to invite the political leaders.”

Later the CEC and commissioners signed the visiting book of the National Memorial.
