There will be no public examinations like the fifth graders’ Primary Education Completion (PEC) and the eighth graders’ Junior School Certificate (JSC) according to the new curriculum, scheduled to be effective from 2023.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni disclosed this information at a press conference held at the conference room of the ministry at the secretariat on Monday. Earlier, she presented the national curriculum outline to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

She also said there will be no examination upto Class Three in the new curriculum. Students will get to sixth grade after passing the fifth grade annual exam in the school.

“The piloting of the revised curriculum will continue in 2022 and the curriculum will be effective from 2023. Primary and secondary level curriculum will be implemented in phases by 2025. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has approved the draft curriculum,” said Dipu Moni.

Highlighting the significance of the new curriculum, she further said, "Study will be made joyous, reducing the burden and stress of content and textbooks. Instead of memorizing, experience and activity-based learning will be preferred. Importance will be laid on sports and other activities for the physical and mental development of the students.”

At the time, the minister said, there will be a new routine in the educational institution from the fourth week of the current month considering the rate of coronavirus infection. If any educational institution does not follow the instructions, action will be taken against that institution.

Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Nowfel, Secretary of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Mahbub Hossain, Secretary of the Technical and Madrasa Education Division Md Aminul Islam and senior officials of the ministry were present at the event, among others.
