No clearance to factories harmful to Sundarbans

Prime Minister’s Economic Affairs Adviser Dr Mashiur Rahman on Tuesday said no environmental clearance certificates would be issued in favour of the industries those are environmentally harmful to the Sundarbans.

“The industries which are harmful to the Sundarbans will not get environmental clearance certificates,” he told journalists emerging from a view exchange meeting with the investors at Export Processing Zone in Mongla.

The investors sought facilities to duty-free import of raw materials and demanded of the government to construct the Khan Jahan Ali Airport and also a bridge over the river of Mongla immediately for ensuring easy movement of the EPZ employees.

Mashiur Rahman assured of the investors saying that directives will be given immediately to the authorities concerned to expand facilities to the entrepreneurs and local people as well.

Member of the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) and Additional Secretary Zillur Rahman, Customs Commissioner (Mongla Customs House) Suresh Chandra Biswas, Mongla EPZ Manager Ahmed Siddiqui, Deputy Manager Shariful Islam and MonglaUpazilaNirabahi Officer Rahat Manna, among others, also took part in meeting.
