The government is going to start the nationwide inoculation drive against Covid-19 on Sunday.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque will inaugurate the drive by receiving the jab at Sheikh Russel Gastroliver Institute and Hospital in Mohakhali at around 10am.
Director General for Health Services Prof ABM Khurshid Alam said 2,402 teams of health workers will be deployed for the vaccination campaign including 206 teams in Dhaka.
The rest will work in various vaccination centres in different districts.
On the first day, vaccines will be administered in 1,015 centres. Each team will consist of four people, including two health workers and two volunteers.
Those who registered will be notified about the details of vaccination the day before via SMS. Even those who arrive in centres without registration will not be sent home. There will be arrangements for on-site registration. However, a national ID card must be shown.
Earlier, the government launched a mobile app 'Shurukkha' to register front-liners willing to take vaccines at the first phase. Till Saturday, 328,013 people have been registered for vaccines.
They will receive text messages about the date and centre for vaccination before Sunday. If anybody misses the date, they would be able to get their doses later, the director general said.
The government is using the Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine produced by Serum Institute.
In the first phase, 3.5 million people have been targeted as the government has 7 million doses in stock including 2 million doses gift from India.
The government will get over 12 million doses by June under the Covax mechanism of the WHO apart from 25 million under the purchase deal with Beximco pharma.
