Bangladesh wicketkeeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim struck an exquisite unbeaten double ton of 203 against Zimbabwe on Day 3 of the solitary Test match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday.
Mushfiq was the star of the show with his 203, hitting his third double century in Tests and then Nayeem bagged two wickets with back-to-back deliveries in his very first over to put the tourists in a troublesome position. Zimbabwe now trail by 286 runs after the end of the day’s play.
For a long time, Tamim was Bangladesh’s highest run-scorer in Test format. With his first innings score of 41 he starched that to 4405 runs. However, with his 203, Mushfiq now surpassed Tamim as the highest run getter for Bangladesh 4413 runs. After Mushfiq’s double century Tigers declared their innings at 560/6d.
Mushfiq was absolutely flawless with his 203, he sent the ball 28 times to the boundary rope while achieving the 200-run milestone. He raised his 50, 100, 150 and 200 with boundaries, all of which were either slapped through point or guided through the gully, with the third man position left vacant for much of the day.
Previously, Mushfiqur Rahim already had the record of scoring the two double centuries for Bangladesh. With his third double century on Monday, the star man of Bangladesh cricket is now sitting next to many legendary batsmen.
His name will now be raised alongside legendary batsmen like Sanath Jayasuriya, Stephen Fleming, Viv Richards, Justin Langer and Gary Kirsten. All of them scored double century thrice in Tests. Who knows one day our pocket sized dynamo Mushfiq can surpass them as well in terms of scoring double hundreds in Tests.
