Another 4,000 Rohingyas are being shifted to Bhasan Char island in Noakhali from various camps at Ukhia-Teknaf in Cox's Bazar.  The Rohingyas left Ukhia of Cox’s Bazar for Chattogram on Tuesday and Wednesday.

They shifted from Boat club jetties of Chattogram to Bhasan char on Thursday under the supervision of the Bangladesh Navy. Earlier, 14000 Rohingyas were shifted to Bhasan Char from various refugee camps in Cox's Bazar in phases.

On Thursday 2,125 Rohingyas were shifting to the island settlement. The second group Rhohingyas of the sixth phase is scheduled to shift on Friday.

All Rohingyas in the first part of this phase arrived safe and all arrangements were made for newly arrived Rohingyas, Commodore Rashed Sattar, The Project Director of Bhasan Char shelter project said.

Samchu-Dauja Nayan, Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner said the Rohingyas left Ukhia Degree College campus for Chattogram in buses on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Rohingya group was supposed to go to Bhasan Char on Wednesday. But due to inclement weather, they stayed in Chittagong.

The government has built a shelter project for the Rohingyas at a cost of about TK 3,000 crore in Bhasan Char, where at least one lakh Rohingyas can be accommodated.

On Monday, Rohingyas from different camps who are interested in going to Bhasan Char were assembled at Ukhia Degree College ground.

Law and order agencies have taken extensive security measures in the area from Ghumdhum Transit Camp to Ukhia Degree College Campus.

Rohingyas living in the world's largest refugee camp are living in a very squalid condition. The government has taken an initiative to relocate them to Bhasan Char for their smooth living.

Although three rounds of Rohingya refugees have come to Bhasan Char, international organizations, including the United Nations, which are providing all the basic humanitarian facilities in Cox's Bazar camps, have not started working on Bhasan Char yet.

But a total of 45 local NGOs are working to provide basics including education, school, and recreation.
