Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique believes that the competition to make money is an obstacle to becoming a good lawyer in Bangladesh.
Speaking at a function on Saturday (April 7) as the chief guest, he said that the issue of financial involvement is creating problems in the legal profession.
For this reason, although there are many lawyers in the country, only a few have goodwill, he added.
He also said that the respect of a good lawyer in society is no less than that of a judge.
Hasan Foez Siddique commented that the lawyer should not only run for money, if someone makes him a good lawyer then money will certainly come to the lawyer.
He was speaking at the opening ceremony of a ‘Law Clinic for the students of East West University (EWU).
The event took place at the Manzur Elahi Auditorium of EWU with Chief Advisor of EWU and former governor of Bangladesh Bank Prof. Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin in the chair.
Vice-Chancellor of East West University Prof. Dr. M M Shahidul Hassan and advisor of the Department of Law of the university Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ekramul Haque also spoke on the occasion, among others.
Members of the Board of Trustees, Treasurer, Faculty Members, Students, Officers and Staff of EWU were present at the event.
EWU inaugurated the ‘Law Clinic’ for its students to teach them all the details of legal issues which are necessary for their profession.
In his speech, the Chief Justice expressed the hope that good lawyers will be produced through this clinic and students will learn practical solutions to various legal problems during their education.
Hasan Foez Siddique called upon the students to work hard not only for the financial aspect but also for the realization of human rights and mankind's. “To be a good lawyer, you need to study constantly with ethical standards, not just look at money,” he said.
