The construction of a section of Bangladesh’s first metro rail is moving towards completion with the authorities planning to start its trial run next month.
Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Limited (DMTCL) authorities say the trial run will be conducted shortly after several train sets arrive in Bangladesh in February from Japan.
They said manufacturing of five train sets for Mass Rapid Transit Line-6 (MRT) have been completed in the factory in Osaka.
According to them, each train will go through at least 19 trial runs in Japan before shipment.
Officials said construction of platforms at Uttara and Uttara South has already been completed while construction of Uttara North platform is now at the final stage.
According to the project details, the metrorail will carry 60,000 passengers per hour by traveling the entire route of 21.26 kms from Uttara to Motijheel-Kamalapur Railway Station in less than 40 minutes.
Officials said if the current pace of work continues the total project might be completed within December 2022.
