Massive reshuffle in BNP leadership

JCD gets 260-member full committee

In a new move to overhaul the party, BNP reshuffled 39 leaders in various positions within the party’s advisory council and national executive committee on Saturday.

The announcement was made through a press release signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Sources said, the BNP has started reorganising the party to inject vigour and form a strong base to relaunch its anti-government movement. The party decided to revamp the organisation after evaluating the ‘success and failure’ of its movement centring the January 7 national election.

The BNP on Thursday night dissolved its committees in Dhaka north and south, Chattogram, and Barisal city units. Similarly, Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal committee, led by Sultan Salahuddin Tuku and Munayem Munna, was also dissolved.

According to the press release, Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon, the party’s secretary (special duty), has been promoted to Vice Chairman, while former MP Jahiruddin Swapan became a member of the BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council.

BNP joint secretary generals Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Mojibur Rahman Sarwar, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, and Lion Aslam Chowdhury have been elevated to the post of Chairperson’s Advisory Council members.

Additionally, Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu (BNP’s Rajshahi Division Organising Secretary), Dr Sakhawat Hasan Jiban (Sylhet Division Organising Secretary), Baby Nazneen (Assistant International Affairs Secretary), and Engineer Khaled Hossain Chowdhury (Assistant ICT Affairs

Secretary) have been appointed as members of the Advisory Council.

Advocate Abdus Salam Azad (BNP’s Dhaka Division Organising Secretary), Syed Emran Saleh Prince (Mymensingh Division Organising Secretary), and Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee (party’s publicity affairs secretary) have been made joint secretary generals.

Kazi Syedul Alam Babul (party’s Dhaka Division Assistant Organising Secretary) has been appointed Organising Secretary of the division, Advocate Syed Shaheen Shawkat Khalek (Rajshahi Division Assistant Organising Secretary) as the Organising Secretary of the division, Shariful Alam (Mymensingh Division Assistant Organising Secretary) as the Organising Secretary of the division, and GK Gouch (Cooperative Affairs Secretary) as Sylhet Division Organising Secretary.

Meanwhile, Sultan Salauddin Tuku (president of the dissolved Jubo Dal committee) has been promoted to the post of BNP Publicity Secretary, Prof. Dr Morshed Hasan Khan (Assistant Training Affairs Secretary) to Mass Education Secretary, Agriculturist Shamimur Rahman Shamim (Assistant Publicity Secretary) to Research Affairs Secretary, Amirul Islam Khan Alim (Assistant Publicity Secretary) to Assistant Organizational Secretary of Rajshahi Division, Nazrul Islam Azad (Assistant International Affairs Secretary) to Assistant Organizing Secretary Dhaka Division, Executive Committee member Prof Aminul Islam to Assistant Organizing Secretary Rangpur Division, Executive Committee member Barrister Mir Helal Uddin to Assistant Organizing Secretary Chattogram Division, Abu Wahab Akand to Assistant Organizing Secretary Mymensingh Division, and Miftah Siddiqui to Assistant Organizing Secretary Sylhet Division.

Nahid Khan (President, Georgia BNP, USA) has been appointed the party’s Assistant International Affairs Secretary, Dr. Shah Muhammad Aman Ullah as Assistant Health Affairs Secretary, and SM Saif Ali as Assistant Information & Technology Affairs Secretary.

BNP assistant organizing secretaries Jalal Uddin Majumder, Syed Jahangir Alam, Saidul Haque Sayeed, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Farooque (Assistant Agricultural Affairs Secretary), and SM Ghalib (Assistant ICT Affairs Secretary) have been removed from their existing posts and made executive committee members of the party.

Koysor M Ahmed (UK BNP General Secretary), Mohiuddin Ahmed Jhintu (Sweden), Gazi Monir (Denmark), and Rashed Iqbal Khan (former Acting President, Chhatra Dal) have been made members of the party’s National Executive Committee.

JCD gets 260-member full committee

Meanwhile, nearly three and a half months after forming its partial committee, BNP’s student body Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has announced its full-fledged 260-member committee.

The BNP high command approved the committee, according to a press release signed by party Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Rakibul Islam Rakib and Nasir Uddin Nasir have been appointed as President and General Secretary, respectively, of the new committee.

In the full committee, 41 leaders have been made vice-chairmen, one has been appointed senior joint general secretary, and 111 have been named joint general secretaries.

In March, a seven-member partial central committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal was announced, with Rakib and Nasir as its President and General Secretary, respectively.

BNP Chairperson’s Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee reformed

As part of its initiative to enhance relations with different countries and diplomats, BNP has formed the Chairperson’s Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee and a Special Assistant Body to the committee.

Tarique Rahman, acting chairman of the party, has been made the chairman of the Chairperson’s Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee, said a press release, signed by its senior joint general secretary, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. 

Other members of the committee include BNP Standing Committee members Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Vice Chairmen Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, Abdul Awal Mintoo, Netai Roy Chowdhury, Chairperson Advisory Council Member Ismail Zabiullah, International Affairs Secretary Humayun Kabir, Former Ambassador Sirajul Islam, and Kurigram district BNP president Tajvirul Islam.

Members of the Special Assistant to the Chairperson’s Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee are Shyama Obed, Anindya Islam Amit, Barrister Nasir Uddin Asim, Barrister Naushad Zamir, Barrister Kaiser Kamal, Advocate Asaduzzaman, Afroza Khan Rita, Advocate Fahima Nasreen Munni, Jeba Khan, Advocate Nipun Roy Chowdhury, Khan Rabiul Islam Robi, Barrister Mir Helal Uddin, Tabith Awal, Engineer Ishraq Hossain, Farzana Sharmin Putul, Israfil Khosru, Barrister Abu Saleh Md Sayem (UK), and Md Iqbal Hossain Babu (Belgium).
