Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) conferred Honorary Life Membership to legendary cricketer of Bangladesh Mashrafe Mortaza, it was announced on Wednesday.
MCC, founded in 1787, is recognised as the sole authority on the game’s Laws, has announced 19 new Honorary Life Members, with eight Test-playing nations represented in the latest cohort.
According to an announcement from ICC- Honorary Life Membership is awarded to some of the finest men and women players to have played the game.
England and India each have five former players included on this year’s list, and players from Australia, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and West Indies are represented.
Eight of the 12 Test-playing nations are represented within this year’s list, which includes some of the most recognisable names in the modern game.
MCC’s Cricket committee considers the nomination of cricketers for Honorary Life Membership, recognising the outstanding international careers of some of the greats of the game. Honorary Life Membership is also awarded to individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to MCC or to the game in general.
Once approved by the MCC Committee, letters of invitation are sent to the individual to accept. There is no set number per year. Nominees can accept and be granted the honour at any time.
