Market monitoring hots up to quell price hike

As prices of different essential commodities continue to soar, the government has intensified its market monitoring process for keeping the market price under control.

As part of the move, the government has intensified monitoring through mobile court operation by the National Directorate of Consumers Right Protection.

Meanwhile, the National Directorate of Consumers Right Protection authorities on Thursday took four decisions for keeping the edible oil price under control.

Moreover, the government directed the law-enforcement agencies to keep constant watch so that any dishonest businessman could not hoard essential commodities illegally.

According to sources, the prices of edible oil, onion, rice and various other essential commodities and food items increased recently. A section of unscrupulous businessmen are found to be involved in creating artificial crisis as part of their illegal business.

In the circumstances, the government has taken initiatives of bringing the market price under control.

The National Directorate of Consumers Right Protection authorities on Thursday held a meeting at its office with oil mill owners and took four decisions to stop artificial oil crisis and monopoly business.

The meeting was chaired by AHM Safiquzzaman, Director General of the National Directorate of Consumers Right Protection and owners of different oil mills were present.

At the meeting, the authorities decided that oil price must have to be mentioned in the body of bottle, all the oil received through Supply Order so far must be delivered by March 24, the authorities concerned must have to check whether oil is being smuggled and tolls are being collected from the oil traders.

AHM Safiquzzaman said that they engaged a large number of magistrates to conduct mobile court operation for market price monitoring and controlling market price.

Meanwhile, Road, Transport and Bridge Minister Obaidul Quader, also the General Secretary of the Awami League, on Thursday said that monitoring in the market system is being intensified and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself is monitoring the market situation.

“It is a matter of hope that Sheikh Hasina’s government has never been and will never be silent on the issue of creating difficulties for people. Necessary steps will be taken to protect the living standard of people,” said the minister.
