Mamunul challenges Dhaka-13 polls result

Maulana Mamunul Haque, ameer of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis who was a candidate of the Jamaat-led alliance from Dhaka-13 constituency, has filed a petition with the High Court challenging the result of the 13th parliamentary election.

In the constituency, Bobby Hajjaj, a candidate of BNP, was declared elected.

The petition is scheduled to be heard later in the day by a single High Court bench of Justice Md Zakir Hossain.

According to results announced by the Election Commission, Bobby, who contested with the “sheaf of paddy” symbol, secured 90,601 votes in Dhaka-13. Mamunul received 86,889 votes, trailing by 2,200 votes.

Earlier, more than 20 candidates filed petitions with the High Court challenging the election results in different constituencies.

The High Court accepted the petitions for hearing and directed the Election Commission to preserve ballots and other necessary election materials related to the constituencies concerned.
