History is in the making with the start of the celebrations of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary today (Tuesday) titled Mujib Barsho. The commemoration of Mujib Barsho - 2020-2021 is being celebrated on the occasion of the centennial birth anniversary of the Father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who led the country to its struggle for freedom.
Amid much enthusiasm the nation as well as people of the world body, including the United Nations (UNESCO), would take part in the opening day ceremony to remember the ideologies of the great visionary leader who united people to independence of the country. The significance of Mujib Barsho programme is noticed in the recognition of the event by global leaders. Many countries have also chalked out separate programmes to observe the day.
The event of Mujib Barsho is significant in the sense that it teaches people about the ideologies of Bangabandhu who believed in harmonizing people irrespective of their personal and religious identity. The event would send messages to the world how Bangabandu inspired people to struggle for rights peacefully. Such heroic acts earned Bangabandhu tiled from leaders like Indira Gandhi and Fidel castro.
Many world leaders are now following the ideologies of what Bangabandhu had pursued in 1952 when he appealed for world harmony keeping religion outside politics. Meanwhile, to mark the day separate programmes have been organised in the country. Awami League (AL) has drawn up programmes to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The programmes includes hoisting of party flags atop all Awami League offices across the country including Bangabandhu Bhaban and AL’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office at 6 am on today, paying homage to Bangabandhu by placing wreaths at his portrait at 7 am. Besides, a delegation of the party’s central working committee led by AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will pay homage to Bangabandhu by placing a wreath at his mazar (shrine) at Tungipara in Gopalganj and join a doa mahfil there on that day.
Meanwhile, President M Abdul Hamid is set to address the nation today evening on the occasion of the National Children’s Day and also ‘Mujib Barsho,’ the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
