The biennial election to the Association of Travel Agencies of Bangladesh (ATAB), an apex body of domestic travel agencies, was held festivity on March 16.
The voting started at 9:00 am and continued until 5:00 pm to fill in the 29-member executive committee of the ATAB. The election was held in festive mode and the candidates termed it free, fair and credible.
ATAB Ganatantrik Oikyafront, led by its president SM Manzur Morshed Mahbub, bagged 18 executive posts and Sammilita Forum, led by its senior member Taufiq Uddin Ahmed, secured 11.
Around 2,300 out of 3,500 voters elected their representatives for a two-year tenure. Of the 29 members, 17 was elected from Dhaka region while six each from Chattogram and Sylhet region. ATAB is considered an integral part of aviation industries and it occasionally gives advice to government officials to resolve any issues centring air travelling or hajj-umrah.
The association has become a strong stakeholder in the aviation and tourism sector in Bangladesh and thus materialised the dreams of its founder members in reality.
