Low over Andaman Sea likely to develop into cyclone ‘Asani’

A well-marked light pressure that has formed over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining areas is likely to cause the strongest cyclone of the year, ‘Asani’.

Bangladesh, India’s West Bengal and Odisha may be affected by this cyclone.

According to the Meteorological Department of Bangladesh, the light pressure has formed in the Andaman Sea since Friday morning. 

It will turn into deep depression and later it will take the form of cyclone ‘Asani’. So far the light pressure has been facing towards Bangladesh, West Bengal and Odisha. However, the direction of the light pressure is changing frequently. 

Therefore, it would be difficult to determine the direction of the cyclone.  However, according to the initial prediction, it could hit Bangladesh, West Bengal and Odisha. The Meteorological Department further informed that ‘Asani’ is expected to hit the west or east coast of Bangladesh within May 10 to 12. According to the weather forecast for the next 24 hours since Friday morning, there is a possibility of rain in the southern part of the country. 

Rain or thundershowers with lightning flashes and temporary gusty wind is likely to occur is likely in some parts of Barisal, Khulna, Chittagong, Sylhet and Dhaka divisions. 

On the other hand, it might also rain at some places in Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh division.
