Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Tuesday said that they had received 206 messages from the leaders of 193 countries on the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
In those messages of facilitations, he said, they praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina government for its leadership in economic development, climate change, women empowerment, UN peacekeeping and most important, her magnanimity to provide shelter to persecuted Rohingya.
“At this historic juncture, I reaffirm our government’s unswerving commitment to enhance regional cooperation and collaboration in all possible areas of development, including quality education and lifelong learning opportunities at all levels,” he said.
He was speaking at an international symposium on the ‘Significance of Regional Cooperation to Ensure the Quality Assurance in Higher Education 2021’ held virtually.
Our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman wished to build the country's higher education institutions as a place of free thinking and expression, said the foreign minister.
Leaders from the region including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the celebration in March in person despite the pandemic.
