A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Malaysia and Bangladesh for the recruitment of staff from Bangladesh.
The MoU was signed by Bangladesh’s Expatriates’ Welfare Minister Imran Ahmad and Malaysia's Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M Saravanan on Sunday.
Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Dr Ahmed Munirush Salehin, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Md Golam Sarwar, Director General of BMET Md Shahidul Alam and other senior officials of both the countries were present during this time.
It may be mentioned that the Malaysian government imposed a suspension on recruitment of Bangladeshi workers in October 2018 and several meetings were held between the two countries with a view to resume recruitment.
As a result of inter-ministerial consultations led by the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and the relentless hard work and diplomatic efforts of the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian government recently approved the recruitment of workers from Bangladesh.
The signing of this MoU has created an opportunity to establish a standard structure for recruitment, employment and repatriation of workers from Bangladesh. Both countries believe that employment of Bangladeshi workers is one of the areas of cooperation and it is mutually beneficial.
In the light of the laws, rules, regulations, national policies and guidelines of both countries, the MoU has strengthened the protection, rights and dignity of the workers.
Under this MoU, all costs of Bangladeshi workers in the Malaysia will be borne by the employer. For example, the recruitment agency will bear the cost of recruitment, relocation to Malaysia, accommodation, employment and repatriation of workers. Employers can hire Malaysian recruiting agents at their own expense. Upon arrival in Malaysia, all expenses including immigration fee, visa fee, health examination cost, insurance cost, corona test cost, quarantine related cost of Bangladeshi worker will be borne by the Malaysian employer.
As a result, it is expected that the cost of migration of workers will be greatly reduced.
