The government has renamed ‘Baridhara Park Road’ in city’s diplomatic zone after ‘King Norodom Sihanouk Road’ in honour of the late Architect of Cambodia. Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister M Tajul Islam and State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam unveiled the name plate of the road at the entrance of the road in Baridhara on Wednesday.
Dhaka North City Corporation panel mayor Jamal Mostafa, Eat Sophea, Secretary of State of Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Local Government Division’s senior secretary Helaluddin Ahmed and foreign secretary Masud Bin Momen were also present.
Speaking at a ceremony held at a hotel beside the newly inaugurated King Norodom Sihanouk Road on the occasion, Md. Tajul Islam said, “Bangladesh and Cambodia have a close relationship. In 2017, a road at Phnom Penh in Cambodia was named after Bangabandhu. Today (Wednesday) Baridhara Park Road has been named after the late Cambodian king because of the love and respect that Cambodia has shown to Bangabandhu. I believe the relationship between the two countries will be stronger through this.”
During Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to Cambodia in 2017, both countries have decided to name ‘Baridhara Park Road’ in Dhaka's diplomatic zone after the Cambodia’s late King and a road in Phnom Penh after Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
