Kholiquzzaman for agent banking’s 70pc loan distribution in remote villages

Renowned economist Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad today laid emphasis on setting up extreme small, small and medium industries for the economic development of country’s remote villages, reports BSS.

“Supply of capital is inevitable for the people of remote villages and that is why at least 70 per cent of the loan being distributed through agent banking should have to be allocated among the people of these villages,” he added.

Qazi Kholiquzzaman was addressing a seminar titled “Entrepreneurial Ecosystem and Green Engineering” organized by Entrepreneur Economics Club of Dhaka School of Economics (DScE) on its campus.

Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University Professor Dr Munaz Ahmed Noor, DScE Entrepreneur Economics Course Coordinator Professor Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali and Shameem Ahsan Khan, among others, spoke.

Qazi Kholiquzzaman opined for the reconstruction of agent banking system so that the entrepreneurs of villages could receive loans from it. There is no alternative for generating entrepreneurs for economic development for which entrepreneur economic education is needed for it, he added.

Dr Munaz Ahmed said fourth industrial revolution is in the process and this revolution could impact negatively on environment. He suggested the policymakers to keep concentration to protect the environment during the adaptation and implementation of any development project.

Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali said the country needs to restructure industry-academic alliances to enrich demographic dividend.

He said most of the people of the country are young and the government should focus on it to utilize their potentials properly.
