JS goes into session today

The 6th session of the 11th Jatiya Sangsad will begin at 4pm today, reports BSS.
President Abdul Hamid called the session on December 24 exercising the power bestowed upon him as per clause (1) of article 72 of the constitution.
The President will address the JS as it is the maiden session of the 2020 calendar year. He will deliver speech at the commencement of the first session as per the Article 73 (2) of the constitution.

The cabinet has already approved the draft speech of the President.

The President is expected to highlight the country’s overall scenario, including successes of different ministries as well as the government. His speech will also focus on the development activities taken in different sectors to turn Bangladesh into a middle income country by 2021 and developed one by 2041.

Before the beginning of the session, the parliamentary business advisory committee headed by Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will determine the duration of the session.

The 5th session of parliament was prorogued on September 12, having five working days.
According to the constitution there can be a maximum of 60 days’ gap between the end of a session and the beginning of the next one.
