Joy thanks all for birthday wishes

Sajeeb Wazed Joy thanked millions of his admirers and followers for sending birthday wishes on his 51st birthday on Tuesday.

The architect of ‘digital Bangladesh’, Joy is the elder son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and grandson of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He also serves as the ICT adviser of his mother.

“Thank you to everyone who has sent me birthday wishes. I am now half a century old, the same age as Bangladesh. After 12 years of our Awami League Government Bangladesh today is a middle income, digitized country. I am now a middle-aged tech entrepreneur!” he wrote in his verified Facebook page.

Different social and political organisations organised prayers for his good health and long life.

His birth coincided with the birth of the country during the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina released a special commemorative postage stamp, an opening day cover and a Data Card marking his 50th birth anniversary.

The Prime Minister unveiled the 10-Taka commemorative postage stamp, a 10-Taka opening day cover and a five-Taka Data Card at a simple ceremony at her official Ganabhaban residence on Tuesday morning.

A versatile scholar, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in computer science, physics and mathematics from Bangalore University. 

"With his tremendous desire to learn more, he completed another Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering at the University of Texas, Arlington in the United States," wrote coordinator of the CRI, ruling Awami League’s research wing, Tonmoy Ahmed, in his Facebook page. Joy is a trustee of the CRI. 

"Finally, he enrolled in the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University where he pursued and successfully completed the Masters in Public Administration. Sajeeb Wazed was the first Bangladeshi to be selected as a Young Global Leader for the year 2007 as an Information Technology (IT) specialist by the World Economic Forum," Tonmoy wrote.

He has played “an instrumental role in introducing and implementing the concept of Digital Bangladesh, which seeks to transform the country into a technologically advanced nation by the year 2021.".

Marking his birthday, Bangladesh Awami Jubo League arranged a milad and doa mahfil at the Bangabandhu Avenue office.

Besides, milad and doa mahfil and tree plantation programmes were also observed at district, city, upazila, thana, municipality and union levels by maintaining health guidelines due to Covid-19 pandemic.
