Hasan Arefin, managing editor of the daily Natun Kagoj, died of cardiac arrest at a city hospital on Monday morning. He was 60.
He was also an executive committee member of the National Press Club.
Family sources said he breathed his last at Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital in the capital at about 9 am soon after he was taken there from his Mirpur residence with severe chest pain.
He left behind wife, one daughter one son and a host of colleagues, friends, relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
He was the former Organizing Secretary of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) and founding President of Dhaka-based Patuakhali Journalists Forum (PJF).
He worked for several Bengali dailies and was former chief reporter of the daily Bartoman.
Namaj-e-janaza for the journalist was held Jatiya Press Club after Zohr prayers.
Hasan Arefin will be buried at his family graveyard at Jolisha Village in Dumki Upazila of Patuakhali district.
