International Women’s Day celebrated

International Women's Day has been celebrated across the country along with the rest of the world on Monday through various programmes. This year the day was celebrated under the theme ‘Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a Covid-19 world’.  

The President and the Prime Minister conveyed their messages on the occasion of the day. Abdul Hamid called upon all the men and women to work together to build a prosperous Bangladesh. The Prime Minister in her message said, women, with their talent and labour, have made equal contribution in the progress and development of civilization through the ages.

The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs arranged a function to mark the day at Bangladesh Shishu Academy auditorium. The function was chaired by State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined the programme virtually from her official Ganabhaban residence. She urged the women of the country to move forward by engaging themselves in income-generating activities. 

Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) observed International Women's Day with due dignity on Monday noon in the BSIC conference room. BSCIC Chairman Md Mushtaq Hasan was present as the chief guest at the event. 

International Women's Day was celebrated at Dhaka College through colorful rally, discussion meetings, and cultural programs. The campus of Dhaka College was abuzz with various events throughout the day.

On the occasion, Bangladesh International Film Movement organized a three-day long 'Joyeeta Film Festival 2021' in the capital, sponsored by Joyeeta Foundation.

The Wari traffic division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) greeted women of all ages to mark the day. The initiative was taken by Deputy Police Commissioner of Wari traffic division, Saidul Islam.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury was greeted with flowers by Chief Whip of parliament Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury and the officers of the Secretariat. 

The day was celebrated with due dignity outside the capital with numerous programmes. 

Discussion meetings and rallies were organized at the initiative of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) and various other organisations in Khulna to celebrate the day.

Different television channels aired special programs and newspapers published supplements highlighting the significance of the day.

Google celebrated the International Women's Day on Monday by releasing a special animated doodle.
