Integrity management has become crucial to ensure good governance in the country’s Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) and other water supply entities.
Besides, utmost emphasis should be given on ensuring transparency, accountability and participation of all stakeholders in the service delivery activities for betterment of the consumers in general. Experts revealed these while conducting a technical session in a two-day long ‘Training of Integrity Management Coaches’ that ended at MIDAS Restaurant in Rajshahi city on Thursday.
NGO Forum for Public Health organized the training in association with Water Integrity Network (WIN) and Centre of Entrepreneurship Water and Sanitation (CEWAS).
Around 15 officials and experts representing Rajshahi WASA, Chottogram WASA and Khulna WASA, International Training Network (ITN) in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Change Initiative joined the training workshop.
KWASA Managing Director Engineer Md Abdullah and CEWAS Program Manager Celia Schmidt shared their respective expertise on the issue virtually. RWASA Deputy Managing Director Tuhinur Alam and its Chief Engineer Parvej Mahmud joined the programme as guests of honour.
NGO Forum Project Focal Person Kazi Monir Mosharrof, Head of Training Syed Waliul Islam and Regional Manager Rabiul Haque facilitated the workshop along with its series of group discussions.
The participants were told that NGO Forum in collaboration with WIN and CEWAS has been implementing Integrity Management Project in the three WASAs since 2017. With the project support, the WASAs were given ideas on how to apply integrity management practices with the application of Integrity Management Toolbox to strengthen integrity, improve performance and service delivery.
They were also apprised that the Government of Bangladesh has formulated a National Integrity Strategy to establish integrity in all sectors to achieve the sustainable development goals and targets.
So there is an opportunity to move forward by establishing integrity through increasing the capacity of utilities through the introduction of integrity management training.
Introduction of such type of training will make sure that the utilities are more accountable together with strengthening institutional governance.
