According to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, INS Kiltan is the third ship of the P-28 class of anti-submarine warfare (ASW) corvettes, indigenously built by Garden Rich Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata.

With a length of 110 meters and a displacement of 3000 tons, this ship is the largest corvette of the Indian Navy. The ship has secret state-of-the-art features such as a superstructure made of carbon fiber.

It has an advanced suite of weapons and sensors that help it effectively play the role of ‘submarine hunter’. The ship is also capable of carrying an ASW role helicopter.

The ship is named after ‘Kiltan’, a beautiful coral island in the Lakshadweep archipelago. The ship’s motto is taken from the Sanskrit verse ‘Sreer Vijayo Bhutir Dhruva’, meaning ‘Always Victory and Glory’.

Naval assistance between India and Bangladesh is an important pillar of bilateral defense cooperation. These regular bilateral visits of ships have played a significant role in strengthening mutual trust and understanding between the two navies.
