After a five-month shutdown due to the global pandemic Covid-19, imports and exports have again resumed through the Tamabil-Dauki land port. Four trucks loaded with stones and fruits entered Bangladesh from India on Monday in compliance with health rules.

No truck carrying goods from Bangladesh has entered India. The import and export will start in full swing through the land port from today, the concerned said.

Vitality has also started to return among the long-unemployed workers in Bangladesh. To prevent coronavirus infection, all types of import and export have been stopped from March 19 through Tamabil land port in Sylhet.

As a result, several thousand workers of the land port became unemployed. Revenue collection also stopped. The traders also got into trouble after opening the LC. Due to the stoppage of imports, there was a stone crisis in public and private development works in Sylhet. In this situation, import-export has resumed through Tamabil land port from Monday following the health rules.

When Indian trucks enter Bangladesh, they are sprayed with disinfectant and sanitized. The medical team at the land port checked whether the truck drivers had any symptoms of corona.

Sarwar Hossain, general secretary of the Tamabil Limestone, Stone and Coal Importers Group, said traders had suffered huge losses as imports and exports had been suspended for five months. They had to pay interest on the bank loan as the LC was stuck.

Besides, several thousand workers involved in the land port were also unemployed. Now that import-export has started, everyone is relieved.

Ruhul Amin, an official of Tamabil land port, said that Tamabil land port has been opened for import and export as the situation in corona is somewhat normal. On the first day, 4 trucks came from India following the hygiene rules. Exports of goods from Bangladesh will start in a day or two.

Tamabil land port revenue officer Sajib Mia said the government was also deprived of revenue collection as import-export was stopped for about five months. Now that import-export has started, Tamabil land port will return to collect revenue.
