Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said she will receive the coronavirus vaccine after ensuring that every citizen in the country has been vaccinated.
“Let all the people receive the coronavirus first. Then I’ll take the jab,” she told a questioner at a virtual press conference organised to mark the UN’s final recommendation for Bangladesh’s graduation from the LDC group.
In her written speech before the question-answer session, the prime minister said a total of 2,850,940 people were vaccinated across the country until Thursday.
She said Bangladesh plans to import another 30 million Covid-19 vaccine doses, as the government aims to inoculate more people in its pandemic battle.
“I’ve already ordered the purchase of 30 million more doses. We are taking steps to ensure that not a single person falls out of the vaccination programme,” Hasina said.
