Homecoming Day observed

The homecoming day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed and celebrated with due respects organizing various programmes countrywide.

As part of the programmes, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her government, ruling Awami League, its different affiliated bodies and various socio-cultural organisations paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing wreaths at his mausoleum at Tungipara in Gopalganj and at his portrait at Bangabandhu Bhaban in capital’s Dhanmondi.

Besides, discussion meetings and cultural functions were also organized to mark the day.

A team of Awami League went to Tungipara Tuesday morning to pay rich tributes to Bangabandhu at his mausoleum.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi Tuesday morning.

After laying the wreath, the prime minister stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of Bangabandhu, the architect of Bangladesh's independence.

Flanked by central leaders of Bangladesh Awami League, Sheikh Hasina, also the president of the party, placed another wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu on behalf of her party.

Bangabandhu, the undisputed leader of the nation and supreme commander of the country’s Liberation War, returned to the sacred soil of independent Bangladesh via London and New Delhi on January 10 in 1972, after 290 days of confinement in a Pakistan jail.

Since then, the nation is observing the day as the Homecoming Day of the Father of the Nation.

Besides, Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and its various front and associate organisations also paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths at his portrait in front of Bangabandhu Bhaban in the city's Dhanmondi area on the occasion of the Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu.

Awami League (AL) Advisory Council Member Amir Hossain Amu, AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader, AL Presidium Members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Mosharraf Hossain, Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, Shajahan Khan, Adv Md Qamrul Islam, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, Joint-General Secretaries Dr Hasan Mahmud, Mahbubul-Alam Hanif, AFM Bahauddin Nasim and Dr Dipu Moni, Organizing Secretaries Ahmed Hossain, Mirza Azam, Advocate Afzal Hossain and Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Engineer Md Abdus Sabur, Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary Aminul Islam Amin and Cultural Affairs Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil were present.

Later, leaders, activists and supporters of Dhaka City South and North units of AL and people from all walks of life placed wreaths to Bangabandhu's portrait there.

Besides, the leaders and workers of Awami Jubo League, Awami Swechchasebak League, Bangladesh Krishak League, Bangladesh Chhatra League, Mohila Awami League, Jubo Mohila League, Jatiya Sramik League, Bangabandhu Parishad, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote, Muktijoddha Sommilito Sangskritik Jote, Tanti League, Sheikh Russel Shishu Sangha, Awami Sangskritik Forum, Bangladesh Water Development's Sramik League, Awami Shilpi Gosthi and Bangladesh Awami Jubo Ayinjibi Parishad paid their homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
