The government has decided to keep all schools, colleges, madrasas, and technical education institutions in 25 districts, including Dhaka, closed for Saturday (4 May) due to the ongoing heatwave sweeping over the country.
Besides Dhaka, the other 24 districts include Chandpur, Tangail, Rangpur, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Dinajpur, all ten districts of Khulna division and all eight districts of Rajshahi division, according to a Ministry of Education press release signed by the ministry's public relations officer MA Khair.
Although the rainfall on different parts of the country has declined heatwave intensity by this time in various places, a medium to high range heatwave is still continued in several north and southern parts of the country.
"Severe heatwave is sweeping Rajshahi, Pabna, Jashore, Chuadanga and Kushtia districts. Mild to moderate heatwave is sweeping over Dhaka, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Barishal divisions and rest part of Rajshahi and Khulna
divisions and the district of Chandpur and it might abate from some places over the country," said a met office release for the next 24 hours starting from 9am on Friday.
Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind was supposed to occur at a few places over Chattogram division and at one or two places over Dhaka, Barishal and Sylhet divisions with hails at isolated places.
Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, the release added.
Trough of westerly low lies over West Bengal to the North-east Bay across southwestern part of Bangladesh.
Country's highest temperature on Thursday was recorded 41.8 degree Celsius at Chuadanga and today's minimum temperature 16.1 degree Celsius was recorded at Tetulia.
Country's maximum rainfall for the last twenty-four hours till 6am today was recorded 67 millimeters (mm) at Rangamati.
Day temperature was supposed to fall slightly and night temperature may rise slightly over the country.
Met office again issues heatwave alert for next 48-hour
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Friday issued again a country-wide heatwave alert message for 48 hours more.
In the latest heatwave alert Meteorologist Md Omar Faruq said: "The prevailing heatwave over Khulna, Rangpur, Rajshahi divisions and the western parts of Dhaka division may continue for the next 48 hours commencing from 06 pm on Friday."
Due to increased moisture incursion, the discomfort may increase, said the message in detail.
