Health dept to remain open in lockdown

All the offices related to the health services division of the government will remain open complying with the health safety rules during the week-long lockdown from Wednesday as the Covid-19 virus continues to spread across the country.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued a statement in this regard on Tuesday, a day after the Cabinet division’s order to keep all offices except emergencies during the strict lockdown till April 21.

Bangladesh on Tuesday reported 6,028 new cases of Covid-19. The pandemic virus claimed 69 more lives overnight.

With that, the tally of infections surged to 697,985 and death toll 9,891.

The health directorate statistics showed that of the infected people since March 8 when the first three cases were identified, 83.95 percent recovered and 1.42 percent died.

The government now tests samples in 255 authorised medical laboratories across the country.

During the lockdown, no one will be allowed to move outside the home, except emergencies. There will be no movement of vehicles.

Police will issue emergency movement passes through an app.

However, factories, and banks will remain open on a limited scale.

The health ministry order said the officials and employees of all the directorates, offices and institutions under the Health Services Division must be present at their respective workplaces and discharge their duties during the lockdown.
