Director General for health services Prof Abul Kalam Azad has resigned following the tug of war between the health ministry and the Directorate General of Health Services on the Regent Hospital and JKG scams.

He tendered his resignation at the public administration ministry on Monday, health secretary Md Abdul Mannan told journalists.
The director general could not be reached despite several attempts.

An official at the health ministry told Bangladesh Post on Monday evening that the Public Administration ministry would issue a circular accepting his resignation shortly.

He cited deteriorated health conditions as the reason for the resignation. He recently survived Covid-19.
The anti-corruption commission (ACC) is investigating the issue of the Regent Hospitals which were issuing fake Covid-19 certificates after being endorsed as a government designated Covid hospital.
But the hospital did not renew its license for the last six years.

The director general had said that they signed the contract with the permission of the higher authority at the ministry after a photo of the contract singing with the presence of the health minister and health secretary was released.

The ministry asked him to explain who was the higher authority.
The then Health secretary Md Asadul Islam has been transferred to the planning ministry earlier following the scams of mask purchase.
