The High Court (HC) on Tuesday appointed four senior jurists as amicus curiae to help the court in the hearing of a writ challenging a provision of vehicle requisition by police, reports BSS.

A HC division bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Khizir Ahmed Choudhury  passed the order, nominating Barrister M Amir-Ul Islam, Barrister Rokon Uddin Mahmud, former Attorney General Fida M Kamal and Supreme Court Bar Association President AM Amin Uddin as amicus curiae.

“The High Court today appointed the four eminent lawyers as amicus curiae while holding hearing of a writ challenging section 103A of The Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance, 1976,” Advocate Manjil Morshed, who is moving the case before the court, told newsmen.

Rights group Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) filed the writ in 2010, and the court while hearing the case, issued a rule and passed an interim order with a couple of directions including vehicle requisition cannot be made without any special need, paying appropriate charge against the requisition, stopping harassment of the vehicle owners and not keeping vehicles for more than 15 days after taking those.
