Hajj costs going up

Cost to perform Hajj under the government initiative this time will be Tk 6,83,028, which is to be disclosed today (Thursday).  

The decision was taken in the meeting of the executive committee regarding hajj management under the chairmanship of state minister for Religious Affairs Ministry Md. Faridul Haque Khan at theecretariat on Wednesday. 

The state minister for religious affairs said that the expenses of various sectors included in the Hajj package were reviewed and a decision was taken in the meeting of the executive committee regarding the determination of the package on the occasion of the holy Hajj-2023. 

According to the said decision, the price of Hajj package under government management is fixed at 683028.00 (six lakh eighty-three thousand and twenty eight). The government package is fixed according to the “C-Category” price of Minar tents.

The State Minister said that the private agencies will announce their own Hajj packages in line with the government package based on the acceptance of the category regarding the location of the Minar tent. Facilities other than tent location should be ensured as per government management package.

The State Minister also said, “The holy Hajj will be held in Saudi Arabia on June 27, subject to moon sighting. On this occasion, the Bilateral Hajj Agreement 2023 was signed between the Royal Saudi Government and the Government of Bangladesh on January 9. 

According to the Hajj agreement, the quota of Haj pilgrims this year has been fixed at 1,27,198. Out of this, 15,000 people under government management and 1,12,198 people under private management will be able to perform the Hajj. Pre-arrival immigration of 100 percent of pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia through Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport this year will be held at the airport in accordance with the ‘Route to Mecca Service Agreement’.

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Advocate Mahbub Ali, Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Kazi Enamul Hassan, and the Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Md. Mokammel Hossain. Other members of the ‘Executive Committee on Hajj’ including Shahadat Hossain Taslim were present while Counselor (Hajj) Jeddah, Saudi Arabia Mohd Zahirul Islam joined the meeting virtually.
