Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed on Monday said teenagers should not be allowed to go astray.
He also warned that there can be no violence in the name of teenage gang in the country.
He made these remarks while addressing as the chief guest of the concluding ceremony of the RAB service week marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The police chief also said, “We have to deal with such violence. We do not want a generation to go to perish.”
He said, “Parents, family and society must take responsibility for this. Parents need to keep track of their children. We have to build policy, ethics and values among them.”
He further said, “All the authorities concerned have to play a stronger role in this regard.”
There are different interpretations of the law when it comes to take action against those under the age of eighteen. It is not easy to solve it only by taking legal action. So, everyone has to come forward, he opined.
The present generation has to be developed as a noble citizen of the developed country in 2041, he further added.
RAB Director General Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun presided over the program. Additional Director General (Operations) Col. Tofail Mostafa Sarwar also addressed the program. It was held at Col. Azad Auditorium of RAB Headquarters in the capital Dhaka.
The IGP said, "If Bangabandhu had not been born, we would not have been freed from the shackles of suppression. Bangabandhu has brought freedom to us. We have to follow the ideology of Bangabandhu.”
Addressing the current students and the next generation, the IGP said, “You will be the citizens of developed Bangladesh in 2041. You have to represent the country. You have to build yourself as a worthy citizen.”
He also praised the role of the RAB as a frontline fighter during the corona pandemic.
The IGP said the RAB had distributed food among the orphans, distributed blankets among the poor, planted trees. Through these activities, they have continued their efforts to serve the people.
He however said every day should be turned into a day of service without limiting the service to any specific day, week or month.
RAB DG Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun said, “Following the ideals of Bangabandhu, we are inspired to celebrate the service week for the welfare of the common people of the country.”
