‘Grassroots women are main artisans of women’s empowerment’

Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said, not only the women who are in important positions, but also the grassroots-level women are the main artisans of women's empowerment in the country.

 “Women were at the forefront of various important national movements including Language movement and Liberation movement. In the liberation war, women fought with arms. Those who did not fight directly also cooperated with the freedom fighters in various ways” She added.

She was addressing the 3rd day of a 16-day "Bijoyer 50 Bochhor: LaalShobujerMohotshab" as chief guest on Friday, organized by FBCCI, country’s apex trade body.

"Half of the country's population is women, who are successfully fulfilling their responsibilities in various important positions including ministers in different ministries. Women make up half of the workforce in the industrial sector, including readymade garments. In addition, rural women entrepreneurs have kept the country's rural economy afloat. Therefore, the active participation of women is essential for the successful implementation of the future economic plans of Bangladesh", said FBCCI President Md. Jashim Uddin while delivering his address of welcome. 

The event was held at the Hatirjheel Amphitheater in the capital.

The FBCCI president said the FBCCI has 21 women's chambers and associations across the country. The FBCCI has always been supportive of women entrepreneurs.

In his speech, the Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation Md. Atiqul Islam said that Bangabandhu has given place to women in the Constitution Committee as a process for empowerment of women in Bangladesh. He has also introduced reserved women's seats in parliament to increase women's participation in politics.

State Minister for Water Resources Zaheed Farooque, MP addressed as special guest. 

He said the Prime Minister believed that development of the country could be ensured if equal rights for men and women were ensured. Achieving gender equality is the main reason behind today's success of Bangladesh, claimed Zaheed Farooque.

Former FBCCI President Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin said that during the short rule of Bangabandhu, Bangladesh started moving towards development. But after his brutal assassination, the country was plunged into darkness again. 

Overcoming hundreds of conspiracies, Bangladesh has overtaken India and Pakistan in many socio-economic indicators under the strong leadership of the Prime Minister during the rule of Awami League. Bangladesh has achieved satisfactory growth even in the adverse conditions of Covid Pandemic.
