Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is set to read out the historic July Declaration today, 5 August, marking July Mass Uprising Day.
The official ceremony will take place at 5:00pm at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) Bhaban, according to a statement from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing.
In a post on the verified Facebook page of the Chief Adviser of the Government of Bangladesh on Monday, it was announced: “Tomorrow, August 5, at 5:00pm Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will read the historic July Declaration at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban, in the presence of political party representatives, families of the July martyrs, and injured fighters.”
To commemorate the day, a day-long cultural programme has also been arranged at Manik Mia Avenue. Citizens of all ages—from children and adolescents to adults and the elderly—are invited to join in celebrating the spirit and significance of this historic day.
The entire event will be broadcast live by Bangladesh Television, confirmed Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
“The interim government has finalised the draft of the July Declaration. The July Declaration will be presented before the nation at 5:00pm on Tuesday (August 5),” a handout said on Sunday.
In a post on the verified Facebook page of Chief Adviser of the Government of Bangladesh on Sunday, the government outlined a comprehensive day-long celebration to mark the one-year anniversary of the historic July mass uprising.
The event, titled the “36 July Celebration,” is designed to honour the legacy of the movement that led to the toppling of the Awami League government.
The event, managed by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and organised by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, with the collaboration of the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat, is being held to commemorate the unity and sacrifice that defined last year's historic uprising.
A post from the chief adviser described how the entire nation came together through the blood of many martyrs and the dedication of countless fighters, creating a surge of emotion and national pride. The event is an open invitation for all citizens to come and partake in this significant moment in the country's history.
The entire programme is set to be a full day of diverse cultural and commemorative events.
Formal proceedings
The formal proceedings will begin at 11:00am with a series of musical and cultural performances.
The morning session will feature acts such as "Tong er gaan," followed by presentations from Saimum Shilpigoshthi at 11:20am and Kolorob Shilpigoshthi at 11:40am. Solo deliveries by Nahid and Tashfee will lead up to the Duhr Prayer break at 1:00pm.
The afternoon will continue with a mix of musical performances and commemorative events.
At 1:10pm, the stage will host the Chittagong Hip-Hop Hood, followed by a performance from Sezan at 1:30pm. The band Shunno will take the stage at 2:00pm, and a special segment celebrating the "Fascist's Flight" is scheduled for 2:25pm.
The musical lineup will continue with Shayan at 2:40pm and the duo of Ethun Babu and Moushumi at 3:00pm.
The rock bands Souls and Warfaze will perform at 3:30pm and 4:00pm, respectively, leading into the Asr Prayer break at 4:45pm.
The historic reading
The pinnacle of the day's events will take place at 5:00pm with the Reading of the Historic July Declaration.
This is the moment when the public will hear the full details of the document that is set to shape the nation's future. Following the reading, musical performances will resume, featuring the Basic Guitar Learning School, F Minor, and Parsha, before the Maghrib Prayer break at 6:50pm.
The evening will conclude with a grand finale of performances and a special show.
Elita Karim will perform at 7:00pm, and a unique drone drama titled "Do You Miss Me?" will be showcased from 7:30pm to 8:00pm. The celebration will draw to a close with a concert by the iconic band Artcell at 8:00pm.
In a message on the occasion of the July Uprising Day, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday said the interim government is committed to restoring the state power to people through a peaceful, fair and transparent election, as part of a sustainable political solution.
He also said, “To accelerate our democratic journey, dialogue continues with political parties and stakeholders on necessary reforms, including the political and electoral systems.”
The Chief adviser called upon all to stand united beyond all divisions to confront and defeat all threats to nation. “Together, we will build a Bangladesh where tyranny will never rise again.”
He said July rekindled the nation’s hope, a hope for a just, equal and corruption-free Bangladesh.
