Govt to procure 4.50 lakh tonne DAP from Saudi’s MA’ADEN

The government will import some 4.50 lakh metric tons of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer from MA’ADEN of Saudi Arabia on G to G basis, reports BSS. The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) in its meeting today approved a proposal from the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) in this regard under a contract worth Taka 1,329.51 crore.

Briefing the reporters after the meeting at the Cabinet Division conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said that per metric ton fertilizer would cost $347.79. He said the meeting gave retrospective approval to a proposal from the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) for importing 15,278.590 metric tons of jet A-1 fuel and 14,401.642 metric tons of diesel with Taka 159.12 crore from Indonesian PT Bumi Siak Pusako (BSP) on G to G basis.

The Finance Minister said the meeting also approved a proposal from the Local Government Division to appoint the joint venture of PADECO Co Ltd, NJS Consultants Co Ltd, IPE Global Limited in association with BCL Associates Limited and Design Planning & management Consultants Ltd as consultants with Taka 51 crore.

These consultants would work under the ‘Urban Infrastructure Improvement Preparatory Facility for Narayanganj City Corporation’ project. Besides, the CCGP approved a proposal from the Road Transport and Highways Division to appoint Toma Construction & Co Limited for conducting the public works of the package number PW-01 under the ‘Upgradation of Jatrabari (Mayor Hanif Flyover)-Demra (Sultana Kamal Bridge) to four-lane with Taka 332.13 crore. 

Apart from this, the cabinet purchase committee approved another proposal for appointing Dohatec New Media, Bangladesh as consultant under the “Consultancy Services for e-GP Related Training” project with Taka 40.12 crore. Meanwhile, the day’s cabinet committee meeting on economic affairs decided to establish the Central Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar being set up on some 30,000 acres of land at Mirersarai in Chattogram under public-private-partnership initiative.

Kamal said once this Shilpa Nagar comes into full operation, then some 15 lakh direct employment opportunities would be created there alongside some 30 lakh indirect employment opportunities.
