Lawmakers on Monday said the present government has ensured economic development of the country through empowering the private sector.

The government has ensured the country’s economic development through integrated policy by including the private sector, they said while taking part in the discussion on thanksgiving motion of the President’s speech at the Jatiya Sangsad here with Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku in the chair.

Taking part in the discussion  the lawmakers highlighted different development activities in various sectors including communication, socio-economic, education, youth and sports, information and communication technology (ICT) under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The President in his 168-page speech on January 5 last, on the first day of the maiden session in 2023 of the 11th parliament, focused on the country’s massive successes in different sectors.

“The present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken an integrated policy for the development of the private sector by creating male and female entrepreneurship which is the driving force of our economy,” said Selima Ahmad of Cumilla-2.

The integrated policy of the government also has ensured the women empowerment in the country, the lawmaker pointed out.

Coming down heavily on the role of BNP-Jamaat government, another ruling party lawmaker Md. Motahar Hossain  of Lalmonirhat-1 said the present government has done enormous development in the last fourteen years but the BNP-Jamaat had done nothing while they remained in power for thirty years.

Participating in the discussion, State Minister for Water Resources Zaheed Farooque urged the people to resist the BNP-Jamaat communal forces for the greater interest of the country.

Lawmakers including Abul Kalam Azad of Jamalpur-1, Eng. Mosharraf Hossain of Chattogram-1 and Bangladesh Workers Party lawmaker Rashed Khan Menon of Dhaka-8, also participated in the discussion.

Earlier, the chief whip Nur-E Alam Chowdhury came up with a proposal for holding discussion on thanksgiving motion of the President’s speech in the House and then it was seconded by treasury bench lawmaker Md. Shahiduzzaman Sarker.

The lawmakers also thanked the President for giving a timely speech highlighting the success stories of the government and guiding the nation towards peace, progress and prosperity.
