The government has made Covid-19 detection test free for the poor people of Bangladesh.
The decision comes following the increasing number of infection, the health ministry said in a notice on Thursday.
The free service will be provided throughout the month of July.
The health ministry said increasing Covid-19 infections has necessitated a lot of testing, but it would be difficult for the poor to test multiple members of their family.
Considering that, the government has taken the step.
Bangladesh on Thursday recorded 143 Covid-19 deaths, the highest number in a single day since its first detection on March 8 last year while 8,301 fresh cases were reported during the period.
The tally of infections has surged to 9,21,559 and the death toll from the pandemic rose to 14,646 .
The government has imposed a seven-day lockdown that began from Thursday to contain transmission of the pandemic virus.
The cost of the RT-PCR test at government facilities is Tk 200. It is Tk 500 if samples are collected from the home.
