Gold prices have risen again in Bangladesh, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) increasing the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 2,158 per bhori.
Under the new rates, 22-carat gold will cost Tk 236,779 per bhori, including VAT. The revised prices came into effect at 10am on Saturday (August 15).
In a notice, BAJUS said the price of pure gold, known locally as tejabi gold, had increased in the domestic market. Taking the overall market situation into account, the association revised gold prices accordingly.
Under the new rates, the price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 226,164 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will cost Tk 194,205. The price of traditional-method gold has been fixed at Tk 158,630 per bhori.
BAJUS said the revised rates will remain in effect at all jewellery shops until further notice. Labour charges will be applicable separately depending on the design of the jewellery.
The association also said VAT is already included in the selling price of gold and silver jewellery, meaning jewellers cannot collect VAT separately from customers. Existing BAJUS rules will continue to apply to jewellery exchange and purchase after excluding applicable VAT, labour charges and stone prices.
The latest increase came just a day after BAJUS cut gold prices by the same amount. On Friday, the association reduced the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 2,158 to Tk 234,621 per bhori.
Following Friday’s adjustment, 21-carat gold was priced at Tk 224,065 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk 192,398 and traditional-method gold at Tk 157,172.
Gold prices have been adjusted 104 times in Bangladesh so far this year. Of these, prices have been increased on 52 occasions, reduced on 51 occasions and adjusted once for VAT.
In 2025, BAJUS revised gold prices 93 times, including 64 increases and 29 reductions.
