The government has undertaken several projects to provide sanitary towels for teenage health protection, uninterrupted education programs and to create women entrepreneurs by imparting training to them for economic and social advancement.
Besides, the government will distribute 16,000 bicycles to poor girl students for ensuring economic empowerment of women.
Ayesha Siddiqui, Deputy Director (Planning and Evaluation) of the Directorate of Women Affairs, said several initiatives have been taken for the development of adolescent and neglected women.
“Meanwhile, the project proposal has been sent to the Planning Commission. One initiative is distribution of bicycles to teenagers. Initially this will start in eight districts. It will be implemented in 32 districts later and it will spread countrywide gradually. Women's employment is also being initiated, Siddiqui added.
However, the government will distribute sanitary towels to ensure the health protection of 57,600 girls in 384 schools at 32 district headquarters. In addition, Haor women will be given training.
Three projects with estimated cost of Tk 73crore will be placed to the Planning Commission, said an official.
On approval, these projects will be implemented by the Directorate of Women Affairs.
Initially, 16,000 girls will get bicycles in eight districts (Rajbari, Jamalpur, Khagrachari, Sunamganj, Chapainawabganj, Kurigram, Jhenaidah and Barguna).
This initiative is titled “Giving bicycles to school-going girls in Juvenile empowerment” at the cost of Tk 25 crore. The project will be implemented by June 2025.
The main objectives of the project are: prevention of child marriage and women's rights, implementation of uninterrupted education programs for school going girls, empowerment of girls, easy and fearless walking. This project will facilitate the entry of women into the future workplace through continuous education programs, and help teenagers to emerge as female entrepreneurs.
On the other hand, the government has undertaken another project titled “Manufacturing and distribution of sanitary towels for the protection of teenage health and economic empowerment of women” to create awareness about the use of napkins.
The use of sanitary napkins will be encouraged among girls and women through the creation of women entrepreneurs at the grass roots level.
It will play a significant role in improving their reproductive health and personal hygiene. The project will be implemented by June 2025 at a cost of Tk 24.50 crore.
Meanwhile, the quality of life of underprivileged women in Haor area will be improved by increasing their income and employment. A project entitled 'Increase in income and employment for economic and social empowerment of underprivileged women in Haor area' will be undertaken at a cost of Tk 23.50 crore.For this, training will be given on floating seed beds, organic vegetable cultivation and duck rearing.
Economic and social development of women will be done by creating a society without discrimination between men and women by adopting and implementing various activities to prevent women's rights and child marriage.
The project will be implemented in Haor dominated areas of Sunamganj, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Kishoreganj, Netrakona, Sylhet and Moulvibazar districts.
Single crop is produced annually in these areas. This project will help free the crop from early floods. Hands-on training on how to make floating beds, training on different types of vegetables on floating beds and training on duck rearing will be provided.
