In-person classes for fully vaccinated students at schools and colleges will start from February 22, said Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni.

“Students who have taken the second dose of vaccine for coronavirus will be able to participate in physical classes. The rest will have to attend online and TV classes,” she said.

She made the remarks at a press conference at the Ministry of Education on Thursday.

The Education Minister said preparations are being taken to resume classes in primary schools in two weeks.

Classes in primary schools will not begin at the moment, she said.

Dipu Moni said, “Strict hygiene rules have to be followed in educational institutions. Those who have received the second dose of the vaccine will attend classes physically. Many students have been vaccinated with the second dose. It will be possible for all students to be vaccinated with the second dose by February 21. Until then, students will take part in classes virtually.”

She mentioned that the respective universities will take necessary steps regarding classes.

“Necessary actions are being taken to vaccinate the students below the age of 12. The more the infection rate goes down, the more the number of classes will increase,” she said.

The Education Minister said that so far, out of 12,800,000 students at the secondary level from 12 to 17 years, 12,657,000 students have received the first dose of vaccine.

“3,450,000 students received the second dose. Students who have received the first dose will be brought under the second dose by February 21. Strict adherence to hygiene rules should be conducted in the classroom. There will be no compromise in their regard,” she said.

She further said that since educational institutions were closed for the last one month due to Corona, educational activities will start from where it ended.

“The number of classes will be increased. Short syllabus of this year's SSC and HSC candidates will be completed as soon as possible. Efforts will be made to take SSC and HSC exams of this year between June and August,” she added.

Earlier, at a meeting of the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 held virtually on Wednesday, the Ministry of Education was advised to reopen all educational institutions.
