Chamber president Mahbubul Alam said that France is the fifth largest export destination of Bangladesh. Although at present garments and leather and leather products are being exported in large quantities, we are also trying to enrich our export basket with the aim of expanding the market.
He made the deliberations in a view exchange meeting with French Ambassador Marie Masdupuy as he visited Chattogram Chamber at the Chamber office at the World Trade Center on Wednesday.
He requested the Ambassador's initiative to invite French businessmen to invest in joint ventures in Bangladesh stating that there are ample opportunities in education, health, technology, energy and renewable energy, blue-economy, logistics, ICT etc. sectors. Mahbubul Alam emphasized on port to port direct freight connectivity and business to business relationship. He also sought cooperation in building the education sector and trained human resources. French Ambassador Marie Masdupuy said Bangladesh is on the list of vulnerable countries due to global climate change. France is working to prevent and remedy climate risks. In this regard, France is interested in helping Bangladesh deal with the climate.
She said, we will work jointly to improve relations between France and Bangladesh. We are interested in working on how to increase investment in Bangladesh, especially in Chittagong. He emphasized on increasing communication with the business community to increase commercial relations between the two countries. Honorary Consul General of France Rafi Nizam said, Allianz Française Chittagong provides French language education. Where general students as well as administration and military members are taking this language education.
In the event, various facilities and steps taken by the government to attract investment were highlighted by the Bangladesh Center of Excellence (BCE), an initiative of the Chittagong Chamber.
