Four more murder cases were filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina along with several former Awami League ministers and police officials on Tuesday with four separate courts in Dhaka.
With the new filings, the total number of cases against Hasina has risen to 71, including 60 for murder, seven for crimes against humanity and genocide, two for abduction and one for carrying out an attack on a procession of the BNP.
In the first case, Hasina and 48 others were accused of the death of Dulal alias Selim in the Jatrabari area of Dhaka during a student protest on August 3.
The victim's brother, Mostafa Kamal, lodged the case with Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saddam Hossain.
The accused include former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, and former Awami League lawmakers Shamim Osman and Ramesh Chandra. The magistrate recorded the complainant's statement and
directed the officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station to treat it as a First Information Report (FIR).
The second case involves the death of Mansur Miah, a machine operator at Buriganga Filling Station in Basila, Mohammadpur, during the quota reform movement on July 19.
Mansur's brother, Ainal Haque, filed the case against Sheikh Hasina and 21 others in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rahesh Chowdhury.
The magistrate ordered the officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station to register it as an FIR after recording the complainant's statement.
The accused in this case also include Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, and former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, among others.
In the third case, Sheikh Hasina and 91 others were accused of the death of Miraz Hossain in Sanarpar, Demra, during the quota reform movement on August 5.
The case was filed by the victim's brother, Khorshed Alam, in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Belal Hossain.
Following the hearing, the magistrate instructed the officer-in-charge of Demra Police Station to register it as an FIR. Former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, and former police officials Harun Or Rashid and Habibur Rahman are among the accused.
The fourth case was filed against Hasina and 40 others for the death of 21-year-old Nahidul Islam at Mirpur-10 on July 19. Victim's brother Md Sabuj filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan.
After the hearing, the magistrate asked the Mirpur Model Police Station's OC to register it as FIR. Quader, Asaduzzaman, Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Hasina' sister Sheikh Rehana, son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Harun Or Rashid and former DMP commissioner are among the accused.
