Due to the decrease of water level coming from upstream, the flood situation in the country’s northern districts is improving. According to the reports filed by our local correspondents on Sunday, the water levels of Brahmaputra, Tista, Dharla rivers were now going down, improving the situation of affected areas.
However, the shore areas of Rangpur and Lalmonirhat districts were still under water, bringing more sufferings for farmers and marginal people.

Due to continuous heavy downpour and downhill wash from hilly areas, the water in 12 rivers in the northern regions swelled up at the beginning of 3rd week of the this month, flooding the adjacent districts. However, the situation began to improve since Friday though the public sufferings is still prevailing in the flood-hit areas.

Our correspondents report that the displaced people on Sunday started returning to their home, as they took shelter following the severe flood in the uphill regions. Jamal Sheikh, a farmer in Lalmonirhat told that all of their farm lands were still under water, destroying the crops. However, the Deputy Commissioner of the district said they have taken all measures necessary to handle the situation.
